On our journey I have found I needed some guidance and help along the way - a bit like a compass, showing me which direction to turn next. These books have been invaluable to me at various stages.
More of a food science text book than useful for recipes, but it is packed with interesting information. How to properly prepare grains, how to ferment dairy, and the low down on carbs, fats, etc...
Fantastic for the bedrock of a traditional diet. Not for the faint-hearted. |
This is the main GAPS diet handbook by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. Essential reading for anyone contemplating the diet.

This book is fantastic if you have to be grain free. A wonderful selection of do-able recipes. I don't think I'll ever bake with grains quite the same again once we are off the GAPS diet.

Since Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride has not yet published her book about autoimmune diseases, we bought this one to help us understand it. No recipes, lots of science, but very helpful - supplemented the GAPS book very well.

I never followed this book to a 'T' as Weston A. Price disagrees with her on some things, for example they think coconut is alright whereas this author doesn't. But it does give a break down of a suitable number of carbs per day per activity level/current health state and list foods and how many carbs they contain. A useful guide in this respect and recommended by Weston A. Price for this purpose, particularly for the overweight or those with Type II Diabetes,
but also for all of us. |
This book revolutionised my gardening technique and providing you have access to lots of well rotted manure, it's very do-able.

This link takes you to the kindle version. You can get it hard copy too. Wonderful seasonal 'special day' recipes, so you don't feel left out!
